The organiser describes the course as 42,195 metres through the urban centre of Murcia, certified (homologado) by the Spanish athletics federation (RFEA) and the Murcia region’s federation (FAMU). The measurement follows World Athletics and AIMS rules for road races, and the World Athletics certificate is published on the race site.

The regulation says the circuit has some shared stretches up to km 15, and different roads after that. To give runners the full 6 hours and still keep the head of the race from meeting the tail, the pass times to km 15 assume a minimum average pace of 7:00 per km, easing to 9:22 per km after km 15. The organiser says this only affects runners averaging slower than 7 minutes per km, who have to run those 15 kilometres a little faster and can win the time back over the next 27.

Whole courseConditionsSix hours, with a 2:45 cut at the half6 hour limit; cut-off of 2:45 at the half marathon.

The marathon has a time limit of 6 hours, and a cut at the half marathon of 2 hours 45 minutes, which deliberately does not fall at half the allowed time, so that head and tail of the race are never together. Runners who miss the limit are disqualified and must take off their bib. The minimum age is 18 on race day.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
