Height drawn many times taller than life. Heights: MDT05.

Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 5 and 16 metres, a range of 11 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Puente de San Telmo, km 7 to 7.2; Acceso a Sevilla desde la SE-30 por el Puente del Alamillo, km 16.6 to 16.9. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span.

km 0 to 42.2GradientTen metres from the lowest point to the highestThe lowest point and the highest differ by 10.6 m, and the start and finish are 0.1 m apart.

The start is 8.1 m above sea level and the finish 8.0 m. In between, the lowest point is 5.2 m at km 38.3 and the highest 15.8 m at km 25.4, 10.6 m higher. Add up every small rise along the way and the profile gives 29.1 m of climbing, but none of it stacks: the largest single climb anywhere on the course is 10.0 m, from km 8.5 to km 25.4.

The organiser puts it as “only 38 turns and 10 meters of elevation gain along its route”. The two figures describe the same course from two sides: ten metres is the difference between the low and the high point, and the 29.1 m is every ripple added up.

km 20.9 to 25.4GradientThe only real rise comes between km 21 and km 25A gentle rise, about 0.16%, then the same height lost again. The last 10 km add only 6.5 m.

Before halfway the course wanders between 5.8 and 11.2 m above sea level. After it, the profile climbs from 8.3 m at km 20.9 to 15.8 m at km 25.4, a rise of 7.5 m over 4.6 km, which is about 0.16% on average. By km 27.0 it is back to 8.3 m.

The last 10 km add only 6.5 m, and the course’s lowest point, 5.2 m, comes at km 38.3 with the finish 2.8 m above it.
