km 0 to 42.2GradientRolling for 30 km, then nearly flatHills in the first three quarters, then 12 km with almost no climbing.

Tallahassee sits on low rolling hills, and the course reads like it. Counted over a 1 km window the marathon climbs 182.8 m in total: 102 m in the first half and 80 m in the second. The highest points are 68.8 m at km 10.6 and 68.4 m at km 23.6, one on each pass of the repeated section, and the road is back above 60 m around km 15, so the first three quarters are a run of short rises and falls rather than one long climb.

The last 12.2 km are different. From km 30 the ground sits between 15.7 and 25.7 m the whole way: 19.5 m of climbing and 21.0 m of descent in all of it, which is the quietest stretch of the race and the one where a tired runner can hold a pace. The lowest point, 15.7 m, comes at km 35.7.

A watch that adds up every short bump will read more.

Measured

km 0 to 42.2FinishA finish 43 m below the startNet downhill from the Capitol to the finish line on Madison Street.

The organiser puts the start on Monroe Street just north of the Florida Capitol and the finish in the College Town district near 815 W. Madison Street. Along the line matched to its draft 2027 map the ground is 66.6 m at the start and 23.8 m at the finish, so the race ends about 43 m lower than it begins.

That drop does not arrive evenly. The first 6.4 km take the course from 67 m down below 30 m, the road then climbs back above 60 m twice more, around km 10.6 and km 23.6, and the long run down to the low ground comes after km 24.

Measured

km 12.5 to 38.6GeometryA second lap, then out and back on St. Marks TrailA repeated lap through the city, then a trail out and back before the finish.

The marathon and half marathon share their first section, then part. The organiser describes two places where the marathon splits from the half. At the first, “Marathoners will continue straight on East Lafayette Street before turning right onto Madison for a second lap.” At the second, on FAMU Way, “Marathoners will turn left at the roundabout to cross FAMU Way and then Robert and Trudie Perkins Way to continue to the out and back along St. Marks Trail.”

On the organiser’s draft 2027 map the second lap turns off at about km 12.5, and the trail out and back begins near km 30.8, with its far end near km 34.7. The Course page says both maps are drafts that may change slightly when the courses are certified in August and September.
