Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 3 and 21 metres, a range of 18 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Puente de Tetuán, km 0.9 to 1; Puente de Tetuán, km 22.4 to 22.5; Avenida de Valle-Inclán, km 25.2 to 25.2; Avenida de Luis Buñuel, km 25.8 to 25.8; Puente de Antonio Machado, km 39.9 to 40. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span. The 2026 start was set for 08:30 on Sunday 8 November, on the Paseo del Parque, in front of the University of Malaga’s rectorate, and the marathon finishes in the same place. The half marathon is run the same morning and finishes at Plaza del General Torrijos instead, so the two distances part ways at the end.

Sourced

km 5 to 40TacticsEight checkpoints, one paceEight timed checkpoints keep a 5:30 finish in reach; the slowest allowed pace is 7:49 per km.

The time limit is 5 hours 30 minutes, counted from the last official start, and it is enforced on the road. The rules set compulsory passing times at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 km: 0:39:05 at the first, 1:18:10 at the second, and 5:12:40 at the last. Divided out, every checkpoint sits on the same pace of about 7 minutes 49 seconds per kilometre, so a runner who is inside the first checkpoint and holds that pace stays inside all of them. Runners who miss one are taken off the course.

Measured

km 5 to 40ConditionsDrinks every 2.5 to 5 kmTwelve drink stations, closer together after halfway, with solids from 15 km on.

The organiser lists drink stations with water and isotonic drink at 5, 10, 15, 18, 21, 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5, 35, 37.5 and 40 km. The spacing tightens after halfway, from 5 km between stations early on to 2.5 km between them from 25 km. Some of the stations from 15 km on also hand out solid food. Another aid area waits beyond the finish line.

Sourced

km 0 to 42.2GradientNever more than 21 m above the seaA sea-level loop: 34.7 km under 10 m, and the only rise worth the name tops out near km 25.

The organiser calls its courses “más rápidos, más llanos y con menos curvas”, and the 2025 course it publishes bears that out. The road runs between about 3 m and 21 m above the sea, and 34.7 of the 42.2 km sit below 10 m. The one stretch of rising ground comes in the middle of the race: from about km 22 the road climbs gently to its highest point near km 25, then drops back to near sea level by km 27.5. The whole marathon climbs 63.2 m.
