The organiser’s rules put the start of both races on Calle Concha Espina, at the corner of Plaza Sagrados Corazones. The Popular finish is “en la cercanía del Estadio de Vallecas (calle Candilejas)”. The International race, for runners with a 10K under 39 minutes (men) or 45 minutes (women), finishes inside the Estadio de Vallecas, and the rules say its last 150 metres are run on the stadium grass. Everything else on the course is asphalt.

Both races are run on a certified 10 km. The organiser describes the Popular course as entirely urban.

The Popular rules list the course street by street: Concha Espina, Serrano, República Argentina, Serrano again, the Puerta de Alcalá, Alcalá, Plaza de Cibeles, Paseo del Prado, Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo (Neptuno), the Paseo del Prado a second time, Plaza Emperador Carlos V, and then Ciudad de Barcelona, Albufera, Sierra del Cadí, Carlos Martín Álvarez, Martínez de la Riva and Candilejas to the finish. From Alcalá to Plaza Emperador Carlos V the rules mark each stretch “sentido contrario a la circulación”, against the flow of traffic.

The organiser’s mobility page says the streets of the course are cut to traffic from about 10:00 on race day.

The rules for the 49th edition, on 31 December 2026, cap the Popular race at 42,000 runners and start it in waves: 16:50 for handbikes and athletics chairs, 17:00 for runners with a proven time under 50 minutes, 17:15 for 50 to 60 minutes, and 17:35, 17:55 and 18:20 for everyone else, who pick their wave when they register. Each of those waves holds at most 8,000 runners. The rules say a runner cannot start in a different wave from the one chosen at registration.

The time limit is 1 hour 20 minutes from the shot of the runner’s own wave. A proven time is a 10K result from a validated race, shown at bib pickup on a printed result or certificate.
