The race starts at 6.5 m beside the river Bidasoa in Irun and reaches its highest point, 72.0 m, at 7.3 km, the Gaintxurizketa climb the organiser calls the first of two important summits. From there the road falls to the lowest point, 3.8 m at 12.0 km in Errenteria, and stays between 4 and 8 m until about 15 km.
The second rise, the Alto de Miracruz in the organiser’s description, ends near 17.0 km at 45.0 m, and the finish in San Sebastián is at 9.4 m. In total the course climbs 140.9 m; the organiser’s own figure is 192 m.
Measured
After a flat start beside the Bidasoa, the road climbs gently into the centre of Irun and then through the small ups and downs of Ventas de Irun. The long climb of Gaintxurizketa takes about 2.5 km, followed by a long descent into Errenteria, which the organiser calls the flattest zone of the whole course.
The hard final metres of Capuchinos lead down toward Pasaia and its bay, then a short rise and fall at Buenavista on the way into San Sebastián. The Alto de Miracruz is a steep finish to the climb, and a straight descent along Avenida de Ategorrieta leads toward Gros, where Avenida de Navarra runs to the Zurriola beach and a continuous corridor of spectators to the finish. The course is listed as not certified.
