The rules say that where the committee judges the bridge section of the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line unrunnable, every distance is run on a shortened course. The course map gives the marathon as a 31.4 km challenge run and the half marathon and wheelchair half marathon as a 10.3 km challenge run, with starts moved to 10:20 and 10:25.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
