From the start at the Joseph-Beuys-Ufer the organiser sends runners north along the Rhine towards the Messe and the Nordpark. The first aid station is at about 5 km, near the Aquazoo. The course then turns back south into the city and crosses the Oberkasseler Brücke at about 13 km onto the left bank, where a loop through Oberkassel holds the half-marathon mark. It crosses the Rhine again to the right bank, runs towards the Königsallee, passes the Zoopark and heads for the Medienhafen. The organiser calls the course mostly flat and varied.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.

One in a pocket cushions a blister if one starts.

Put it on clean, dry skin and leave it until it comes off by itself.

Give a couple to whoever comes to cheer, so they are there at the km you need them.
