The organiser describes every distance as a circuit over asphalt roads: the 5 km, 10 km and walking events run it once, the half marathon twice. The route is officially measured to IAAF/AIMS standards. There are three refreshment stations on the 10 km and half marathon courses, and water and food at the finish.

The 79th Osterlauf is billed as Germany’s oldest road race. The half marathon is the last start of the day, after the children’s, 5 km and 10 km races, and the CEP PacerTeam supplies pacers on the 10 km and half marathon. Runners born in 2010 or earlier can enter.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.

One in a pocket cushions a blister if one starts.

Put it on clean, dry skin and leave it until it comes off by itself.

Give a couple to whoever comes to cheer, so they are there at the km you need them.
