The trace runs between 121 and 136 metres, a range of 15 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there.

The road runs from 120.6 m, at 0.2 km, to 135.5 m, at 19.1 km: 14.9 m from the lowest point to the highest. The marathon climbs 57.8 m in total, so a watch on the day will count more small rises than this from road crossings and bridges.

The organiser calls the courses “vollkommen eben”, completely flat.

Measured

The marathon page describes the courses as completely flat, paved and free of traffic, measured under IAAF rules and therefore eligible for best-performance lists, with certificates on file. Each kilometre is signed. Aid stations stand about every 5 km with electrolyte drinks, tea, water and fruit, and runners may leave their own supplies at the info stand in the exhibition hall until 9:30 for delivery to the aid station they choose. The home page calls the Bienwald-Marathon one of the fastest marathons in Germany, run since 1976.

The marathon page limits the field to 2,500 participants. The organiser’s news item of 19 September 2026 says the 52nd Bienwald-Marathon, on 14 March 2027, sold out in under a week after the entry portal opened; the year before it took about six weeks. A resale portal lets runners offer their place to others, and the marathon doubles as the 2027 Pfalz marathon championship.
