The course

The organiser describes the first 7 km as beach, a steep climb off the beach at Castricum aan Zee, unpaved dune tracks, and a last hill up the Bloedweg.

The half marathon starts on the Boulevard Noord in Egmond aan Zee and goes straight down the main beach access for the first 7 km on sand. At the beach exit in Castricum aan Zee the organiser warns of a stiff climb into the Noordhollands Duinreservaat. The unpaved Vlewoscheweg and Grote Veldweg lead to Kennemerduin Camping Bakkum, where the halfway mark lies. Paved roads follow back to Egmond, where the Bloedweg is a considerable hill. A last small climb comes at the Van Speijk lighthouse, 200 metres from the finish.

The 52nd Egmond Halve Marathon is on Sunday 10 January 2027, the second Sunday of January as always. Citing Rijkswaterstaat, the organiser puts the lowest water at 13:34 and the highest at 18:00 that day, so half marathon runners run with a rising tide on the beach. Time clocks stand at the start, the finish and the 5, 10, 15 and 20 km points. The time limit for the half marathon is 3 hours. Runners must be 18 or older.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
