The high point, beside the A2

The Welschappad is a cycle path beside the A2 and the Beatrixkanaal, a canal of 8.36 km begun in 1930 to link the De Hurk industrial estate to the Wilhelminakanaal and opened without ceremony in August 1940; the path skirts the airfield laid out as Welschap in 1932, now Eindhoven Airport.

Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 15 and 21 metres, a range of 6 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Sterrenlaan, km 2.5 to 2.5; Airbornelaan, km 5.6 to 5.7; Noord Brabantlaan, km 25.6 to 25.7; Locatellistraat, km 30.2 to 30.2; Professor Holstlaan, km 31.5 to 31.6; Professor Holstlaan, km 36.3 to 36.4; Antoon Coolenlaan, km 36.6 to 36.6; Genneperweg, km 37.6 to 37.6; Genneperweg, km 37.7 to 37.7; Boutenslaan, km 38.1 to 38.1; Boutenslaan, km 38.5 to 38.5; Boutenslaan, km 38.9 to 38.9; Boutenslaan, km 39.2 to 39.2; Vestdijk, km 41.9 to 41.9. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span. This is the 2026 course, the one the organiser has published and says has been officially measured. The road starts at 19.1 m on Veldmaarschalk Montgomerylaan and ends at 16.3 m on the Vestdijk. The lowest point is 15.1 m at about km 4.2 and the highest is 21.4 m at about km 18.5, beside the A2 motorway: 6.3 m between the two extremes.

The 16.5 m of climbing ignores every short rise. A watch that counts each one will read more. The organiser’s own description is “het vlakke, brede en sfeervolle parcours”, the flat, wide and atmospheric course, and the road agrees on “flat”.

Measured

km 0 to 42.2GradientThe little climbing comes before halfway11.2 m of climbing before halfway, 5.3 m after, and no point past halfway above 20.1 m.

Both the low and the high point sit in the first half: the low point of 15.1 m at about km 4.2 and the high point of 21.4 m at about km 18.5. Between them the road rises 6.3 m over 14 km, and that is the largest change of level anywhere on the 2026 course.

After halfway the road is level for practical purposes. It touches 20.1 m at about km 25.3, drifts down to 17.2 m around km 37.5 and ends at 16.3 m, so the last 21 km add 5.3 m of climbing in total. For pacing, the course gives no reason to hold back for a late hill.

Measured

km 0 to 42.2LandmarkPast the Evoluon and through the High Tech CampusStart on Montgomerylaan, the Evoluon at km 24, the High Tech Campus at km 33, finish on the Vestdijk.

The organiser says the course starts and finishes in the heart of the city and takes in “innovative hotspots and sporting landmarks” as well as green parks and city streets. It names the football stadium, the Evoluon, the High Tech Campus and the city centre. The marathon starts on Veldmaarschalk Montgomerylaan on Sunday, as do the half and quarter marathons, and the finish is on the Vestdijk.

On the 2026 course, the Evoluon, the saucer-shaped concrete building of 1966, comes at about km 24.3, and the route reaches the High Tech Campus at about km 33.4. The organiser’s page says the course has been updated for greater running comfort. This is the 2026 course.
