The 2026 course file is the latest the organiser has published; no 2027 course is up yet. Along it the ground stays inside a band 32.6 m deep, from 3.4 m above the sea near km 18.6 to 36.0 m near km 22.3, but the road never settles into it. It climbs 138.0 m and comes down 139.1 m, so the finish at 22.5 m ends 1.1 m below the start at 23.7 m.
The first 10 km climb 30.2 m and the stretch from km 10 to km 12 gives 14.5 m straight back, with no climbing in it. The rises are short and come one after another, which is a different race from a flat one with a single hill.
Measured
Split at the half-marathon mark, the first half climbs 52.0 m and falls 63.5 m, so you reach km 21.1 at 12.1 m, 11.5 m lower than you started. The second half climbs 81.9 m and falls 75.6 m. The high point of the whole race, 36.0 m at about km 22.3, is just past halfway, and the second half holds both the long drop to the water and the climb back from it.
Measured
From km 26.2 the road runs downhill for 4 km, 31.0 m in all, and almost none of it climbs. Västerbron, which the course crosses from km 27.3 to km 28.3, sits inside that drop. The low point of the stretch, 4.6 m, is at about km 30.2.
The road then turns upward: 20.6 m of climbing between km 28.5 and km 32, ending at 25.2 m. It comes at the point of the race where legs are already spent.
Measured
A double loop out of the 1912 Olympic Stadium through Gamla Stan, Strandvägen and Södermalm, finishing with three quarters of a lap inside the stadium track where 83 world records once fell.
The Stockholm Marathon is a loop of 42.2 km with 138 m of climbing. Its lowest point is 3 m and its highest 36 m above sea level. Next race: Saturday 29 May 2027, starting at 12:00.
