The 2027 10K starts at 21:10 and a new starting group goes every 5 minutes until the last start at 23:20, so the start group you choose sets both your start time and the traffic around you.
The organiser’s 10 km page gives “First start: 9:10 PM – after that, each new starting group starts at 5-minute intervals” and “Last start: 11:20 PM”. It adds: “You must be at the entrance area 20 minutes before your start time.”
The groups “are based on different expected finish times”. For the front groups (1A, 1B, 1C) the FAQ asks for a result from the past three years, with 1A set at 35:59 for men and 39:59 for women, 1B at 39:59 and 1C at 44:59. In Stockholm, group 2 (49:59) is a seeding group as well. The FAQ also warns that “you run a high risk of being without a result if you start in a different start group than the one you signed up for.”

The organiser lists “Start: Ringvägen 26 – warm-up and start take place here” and “Finish: Hornsgatan 57”. Before the race, “All runners gather at Zinkensdamms IP”, the Runners Corner, which opens at 6:00 PM.
The 10 km page’s list of what the registration fee includes ends with “Clothing drop-off at the Runners Corner”.

The history page says “The Midnight Race started for the first time in 1982 and was then, as it is now, held in Södermalm in Stockholm”, and traces the growth “From 2,852 starting runners in the debut year of 1982 to 42,000 registered runners in 2014”. The history page calls the race “one of the largest and most popular races in the Nordic region with approximately 50,000 registered participants annually”.
The FAQ is frank about the crowd: “A common piece of feedback we receive is that the course often feels too crowded.” Its explanation is that many runners choose a faster start group than their real ability, which creates bottlenecks along the course.

In the FAQ’s 21 km section the organiser writes: “Please note that Midnattsloppet course is relatively hilly.”
For the 10K the FAQ says: “The maximum time for the 10 km race is 90 minutes (counted from the last starting group). The cutoff point will be at the 5 km timing point”. A runner who reaches it too late is stopped by officials, who “will also remove your timing chip to document that you have exited the race and assist you in the right direction.”

Race fuel
One every 40 minutes, by the clock:
Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.
For your long training runs:
Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side. Enough for race day and two test long runs.
Easy to forget on race morning: pack them with your bib the night before.
We earn a small fee if you buy through these links. The price is the same.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.
Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.
Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.

Holds your bib without safety pins through your top, with loops for up to 8 gels.
Clip the bib on the night before, so it goes on with your shorts in the morning.

One in a pocket cushions a blister if one starts.
Put it on clean, dry skin and leave it until it comes off by itself.
