The half and the full marathon start together from the Marina in Dingle town towards Ventry and Slea Head. The organiser names Milltown Bridge, Burnham woodland, Ventry beach, Dunbeg Fort and the ford at Fahan, then Slea Head itself and Coumenoole Strand, where some of Ryan’s Daughter was filmed, before Dunquin.

The organiser says the half marathon finishes near Dunquin outside Kruger’s Pub, with complimentary buses back to Dingle. The full marathon carries on through open countryside and Ballyferriter, and warns runners to keep fuel in the tank for the climb around mile 22.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
