The 42K is billed as the “Adventure Trail” and the half marathon as the “Hill Explorer”. The organiser gives the event’s elevation as approximately 1,800 m, set among village roads, wide-open views and the volcanic landscape around Mount Bromo.

The start and finish venue has been Plataran Bromo, in the Tosari highlands of Pasuruan, East Java. The 14th edition is on Sunday 5 September 2027, with distances of 2.5K, 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K.

Whole courseTacticsMandatory gear for the trailVest, 1 litre of water, rain jacket, blanket, whistle, headlamp and ID are on the kit list.

The organiser’s checklist for the 42K and 21K lists a running vest or belt, a soft flask or bladder holding at least 1 litre, a snack or energy bar, a phone carrying the GPX file, personal medicine, a windbreaker with a rain jacket, an emergency blanket, a whistle, the bib, a headlamp with spare batteries and an ID card.

The 10K list is shorter: it leaves out the hydration minimum, the headlamp and the ID card. A mandatory check before the start decides whether a runner is allowed to race.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
