An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there.

The 2026 race started at 9:00 on Sunday 11 October on Ban Josip Jelačić Square and finished there. The marathon was one lap of 21 km and two laps of 10 km.

The long lap went out through Jurišićeva and Draškovićeva, turned at Gračanska cesta in the north, came back to Vlaška and went east along Maksimirska cesta to a turn at number 150. It then returned west and finished through Ilica to the square. Each 10 km lap went out along Maksimirska cesta to a turn a little past Josipa Sermagea, and came back through Ilica. The half marathon was the single 21 km lap.

The 2026 marathon had a time limit of 5 hours 30 minutes. The programme put the last marathon runner at the finish at 14:30, which is that limit counted from the 9:00 start.

Refreshment stations stood at 4, 7, 14, 18, 22, 25, 29, 32, 35, 39 and 42 km. The first had water only; the rest had water, sports drink and fruit. At the finish every runner received a bottle of water, a bottle of sports drink and fruit, and the changing rooms and bag drop were in Kurelčeva Street.

The 2026 course went north from Ban Josip Jelačić Square up Medveščak and Ksaverska cesta to the turn at Gračanska cesta, rising from about 128 m to about 172 m by km 4. That turn is the highest point of the race, and the runners came back down the same road.

From km 8.5 to the finish, along Vlaška, Maksimirska cesta, the streets of the lower town and Ilica, the course stays between 117 m and 130 m. The lowest point comes on the first 10 km lap, near km 24. The total climb on the card adds up every short rise over the whole race; the one long climb is the first 4 km.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.
