The 42nd Niigata City Marathon ran from in front of Denka Big Swan Stadium to the Niigata City Athletics Stadium on a course certified by World Athletics and the Japan Association of Athletics Federations.
The 2026 marathon ran on Sunday 11 October, starting at 8:30 with competition closing at 15:30. The organiser lists timing points at 5, 10, 15, 20, the halfway point (21.0975 km), 25, 30, 35 and 40 km and the finish. A 10.6 km fun run shared the start and the finish.
Sourced
The organiser sorted runners into start blocks by the finish time they gave at entry, and said a block could take about 20 minutes to reach the start line. Finishers received a towel and either a giant rice ball or packed rice, and chose one of three participation gifts at entry.

Race fuel
One every 40 minutes, by the clock:
Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.
For your long training runs:
Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side. Enough for race day and two test long runs.
Easy to forget on race morning: pack them with your bib the night before.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.
Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.
Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.

Holds your bib without safety pins through your top, with loops for up to 8 gels.

One in a pocket cushions a blister if one starts.
Put it on clean, dry skin and leave it until it comes off by itself.
