The organiser says the Bix 7 starts at the intersection of Brady and 4th Street and goes up Brady Street Hill at once. It describes the hill as about a 7 to 9% grade, or 4 to 5 degrees, for around one third of a mile. The race is a 7-mile out-and-back through downtown Davenport that begins at the base of that hill and, in the organiser’s words, starts at the Mississippi River.

From Brady Street runners turn right onto Kirkwood (Bix) Boulevard, climb Jersey Ridge Road, turn right onto Middle Road and right again onto McClellan Boulevard to the turnaround at River Drive. Runners come back the same way and turn left onto 3rd Street to the finish line. Splits are given at every mile marker, with a timing mat at the halfway point.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
