Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 876 and 995 metres, a range of 119 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Livingstone Way, km 3.6 to 3.8; Livingstone Way, km 4.7 to 4.9. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span.

On the 2026 route the full and half marathon leave the school, make a number of turns in the suburbs and head down the main road toward the Zimbabwe-Zambia border and across the bridge. The turn point is just before Zambian Immigration, about 4.5 km in, and the runners head back over the bridge.

In 2026 both border posts stopped traffic and pedestrians from going onto the bridge from 6:00 until 8:30 while the runners crossed to the Zambian turn-around point and back into Zimbabwe. Runners are told to stay on the Victoria Falls side rather than in Livingstone, because the bridge is closed to ordinary traffic on race morning.

km 4.5 to 42.2GeometryTwo laps of the same road, with turnaroundsZambezi Drive, Park Way and the Kazungula road, run twice, with turnarounds near 19 km and 36 km.

From the bridge the 2026 route turns right up Zambezi Drive, with views of the river, the Big Tree at 8 km “and maybe some game”, and armed National Parks rangers along this section. At the T-junction with Park Way it turns right toward the National Park gate (approx. 12.5 km) and turns around before the gate, then comes back along Park Way. After a pass through a safari lodge property at about 15 km, it runs Reynard Road and Reynard Extension to the Kazungula road, with the turn point “just 350m past the 19km marker”.

In 2026 the marathon was run as two laps that were exactly the same, so the second pass reaches the Kazungula turnaround just after the 36 km marker. The finish is back at Baobab Primary School, the start. There are water points about every 4 km to 5 km.

The start and finish are both at about 926 m. The lowest ground is near the bridge, at about 876 m around km 5, and the highest is the Kazungula road turnaround near km 19.4, at about 995 m; the second lap reaches the same turn near km 36. Over the whole 2026 route the road climbs about 270 m, in long rolling rises rather than one hill.
