Cais do Sodré

Runners reach Cais do Sodré before the turnaround on the Avenida 24 de Julho and pass it again on the way back.

Height drawn many times taller than life. Heights: GEDTM30.

Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 10. The trace runs between 3 and 50 metres, a range of 46 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there.

The organiser’s route starts on the Avenida da Liberdade and passes the Praça dos Restauradores and the Rossio before the Rua do Ouro, the Rua do Arsenal and the Cais do Sodré. After a turnaround on the Avenida 24 de Julho near the Portuguese Red Cross staircase, it returns by the Avenida Ribeira das Naus, the Praça do Comércio, the Rua da Prata and the Rua da Betesga to the Rossio. It then climbs the Avenida da Liberdade to the Praça Marquês de Pombal and finishes on the Praça dos Restauradores.

Runners are placed in blocks by a 10K time from the last two years: under 37:30, under 45, 50 and 60 minutes, under 1:15, and slower. The first wave takes the first three blocks, the second the Sub 60 block and the third the two slowest. Everyone must be in their block by 21:30, and the chip starts only at the line, so the wave does not cost time. The participation of runners under 18 is not allowed.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
