The course

In the organiser's 2026 description the marathon climbs about 290 m in the first 8 km towards the mountain, then comes back down to finish in the MoCU stadium.

For 2026 the organiser says the marathon started in the MoCU stadium in Moshi at 06h30 and took the uphill first, “approximately 290m altitude gain in 8km”, so the climb is done in the cool of the early morning. It follows the half marathon route to about the 19 km mark, where the full marathon turns right past the Moshi Club and over the Old German Bridge, loops back along the same road and runs down an avenue of shady trees into the stadium.

On the 2026 route the organiser says the dirt road section from 19 km to 39 km was graded and watered before the race to keep the dust down. The 2027 race is on 7 February, a new date, and the organiser says the 2027 full marathon is an official Comrades Marathon qualifier. The organiser lists three entry categories: Tanzania and East Africa citizens, Tanzania residents, work permit holders and SADC citizens, and international runners.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
