Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 90 and 113 metres, a range of 23 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Karaliaus Mindaugo tiltas, km 0.3 to 0.4; (unnamed span), km 4.8 to 5; (unnamed span), km 9.9 to 10.1; A. Mickevičiaus g., km 12 to 12.1; Karaliaus Mindaugo tiltas, km 21.4 to 21.5; (unnamed span), km 25.9 to 26.1; (unnamed span), km 31 to 31.2; A. Mickevičiaus g., km 33.1 to 33.2. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span. Marked points: Cut-off at km 21.1.

km 0 to 42.2GeometryTwo laps from Cathedral SquareTwo laps of the half marathon loop, from and back to Cathedral Square.

Marathon and half marathon runners go off together from Cathedral Square at 8:30. In 2026 the first stretch led to the Mindaugas Bridge over the Neris; the half marathon ran the loop once and the marathon ran it twice, back through the square at the end of each lap.

A lap takes in the old town and Gediminas Avenue and runs out through Žvėrynas to Vingis Park before it returns to the centre. The marathon has a time limit of 5 hours 30 minutes, and the first lap has to be done inside 3 hours. These are the 2026 laps.

km 0 to 42.2GradientA 23 m band, with the high ground on the way to Vingis ParkA gentle course: 23 m between lowest and highest, about 60 m of climbing a lap.

Vilnius is not a hilly marathon. The ground sits at about 93 m in Cathedral Square and rises to 113 m by km 7.7, on the way out to Vingis Park in the west. It drops back to 89.8 m by km 11.8 and the rest of the lap stays below 106 m. Each lap climbs about 58 m, 115.8 m in all.

The second lap repeats it: 113.0 m again at km 28.8 and the low point of 90.0 m at km 32.9. The rises are short and easy, and they come where the spectators stand: the approach to the White Bridge into Žvėrynas, Birutės Street towards the Vingis footbridge and Vilnius Street by Kudirka Square. Totorių Street, close to the end of each lap, is the last harder place.

Measured

km 0 to 42.2CrowdCathedral Square, Gediminas Avenue and the out-and-back on Goštauto StreetSupporters can see runners several times on Goštauto Street or in Cathedral Square.

Cathedral Square is the start, the finish and the place the laps come back to, and in 2026 the event village stood around it. Gediminas Avenue has cafés along its length, and the square in front of the Presidential Palace holds the last turn before the finish.

Goštauto Street is run out and back, so a supporter there sees the same runners go by more than once. In Vingis Park the stage has room for large groups, and the park is easy to reach from Čiurlionio Street.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
