An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. Marked points: Cut-off at km 21.1.

km 0 to 42.2GeometryTwo laps of one loop through the cityTwo laps of the 21.1 km loop, starting and finishing at the City Hall.

The organiser sends marathon runners round the half marathon course twice, from Rådhusplassen and back. Each lap takes in Skøyen, Frogner and the Akershus shore, Aker Brygge, Akershus Fortress, Bislett, Frogner Park and Karl Johans gate. Half way is a cut-off as well as a landmark: a runner who has not passed it inside 3 hours is stopped.

The line drawn here is the 2026 course. The organiser says the 2027 course will be presented closer to race day.

km 0 to 42.2GradientTwo climbs a lap: up to Frogner, up to BislettUp to Frogner, down to the fjord, up to Bislett, down to the finish. Twice.

Oslo is not flat, and the course meets the same two hills on each lap. From Rådhusplassen at 8 m the road rises to 54 m by km 5.2 at Frogner, then falls all the way to the fjord: the lowest point of the course, 1.7 m, comes at km 10.9 between Skøyen and Aker Brygge. The second climb starts by the water at km 13.2 and reaches 43 m at km 17.1, just before Bislett, from where the last few kilometres of the lap run downhill to the City Hall.

The second lap repeats it: 54 m at km 26.3, the low point again at km 31.9, Bislett again near km 39. Counted over a 1 km window the race climbs 194.8 m, 98 m on the first lap and 97 m on the second. The organiser quotes about 350 m for the marathon; a 1 km window counts only the sustained climbs, not every short rise a watch adds up.

km 17.4 to 18.4LandmarkA lap of the Bislett track, twiceEach lap runs once round the track inside Bislett Stadium.

The organiser’s course file turns off the street at Bislett, runs once round the stadium’s track and comes back out the way it went in, on both laps. On the line drawn here that is about km 18 on the first lap and km 39 on the second, near the top of the second climb on each lap.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.
