The organiser publishes the “10K Route Measurement Certificate” for the race. It reads: distance 10 km, date of measurement 19 April 2026, certificate number IND2026/157, World Athletics and AIMS grade B, expiry 31 December 2030. It was registered on 21 April 2026, five days before the 2026 race.

The organiser’s event history calls the race one “recognized with a World Athletics Gold Label”.

The organiser’s confirmation criteria for the 2027 Open 10K say that “registration in this criterion is on the basis of timing qualification as per the age bracket and gender”. Times from a 10 km, 5 km, half marathon, 25 km or marathon are accepted, from an event held “on or after 1st October 2025” with a course measured by an AIMS or World Athletics accredited measurer.

The 10 km limit starts at “Under 1 hr 21 mins” for men aged 15 to under 20 and “Under 1 hr 24 mins” for women, and rises a minute with each five-year age band, ending at 1 hr 32 min for men and 1 hr 35 min for women aged 70 and above. A runner without a qualifying time can apply under the Charity Running Places criterion instead.

The organiser states that “Timing results, rankings and certificates of the TCS World 10K 2027 will be generated only for runners who complete the 10 Km distance within 1 hour 30 minutes from their start time.” The 90 minutes run from your own start, not from the gun.

The organiser’s event history says that “In 2022, Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli (Kenya) and Irene Cheptai (Kenya) set course records of 27:38 and 30:35”, and its table of past winners marks both 2022 times “Course Record”. Joshua Cheptegei won the 2025 men’s race in 27:53.

The same history describes Bengaluru as “nestled high on the Deccan Plateau and blessed with pleasant weather”. The race first ran in 2008.

Finish

Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.

For your long training runs:

Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
