On the organiser’s 2026 pages the start is “W. Riverside Ave between Post and Lincoln”. Its parking page speaks of “Streets near the start (downtown Spokane) and finish (Monroe Street Bridge)”, and its water stations page puts post-race water “Across Monroe street bridge on Spokane Falls Blvd.”

Between the two, the 2026 water stations stand on Government Way at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery (approx. mile 2), at the SFCC Lodge on Ft. George Wright Blvd. (approx. mile 4), at the top of Doomsday Hill (approx. mile 5) and on Broadway (approx. mile 6.5).

The water stations page reads “3rd is at the top of Pettet (Doomsday) hill” and gives “Top of Doomsday Hill – Approx Mile 5”. The history page dates the name: in 1980 “The course is adjusted, introducing Pettett Drive”, soon to be called Doomsday Hill, and in 2012 “runners are also timed on Doomsday Hill”.

The registration page describes the whole route as “both challenging hills and flat stretches”. Bloomsday is 7.46 miles (12 km), so the water station at the top comes about two thirds of the way round.

For 2027 the homepage lists Elite, Corporate Cup and Brown at 9:00am, Yellow and Green from 9:05 to 9:20, Orange and Blue from 9:25 to 10:10, Lilac from 10:15 to 10:25 and Red at 10:30am, and says “Arrive 30 minutes prior to the time listed.”

The race-information page says that “With chip timing, your Bloomsday time is calculated from start to finish, so there’s no need to rush!” On colour groups the registration page is plain: “no color change is necessary if you want to MOVE BACK to join a color group that starts later than your color”, but “don’t line up in a color group that starts earlier than your assigned group, or you won’t be timed and you may be disqualified.”

The FAQ says “Average temperature at the start is approximately 50 degrees, but it has occasionally been in the high 70s. We have also started with snow on the streets”, and describes the route as “entirely on asphalt”. On closing: “The course closes at 1:30 p.m., or when the sweep vehicle passes, whichever comes first”, after which runners keep going on the sidewalk.

The parking page, written for the 2024 race, says streets near the start and finish close at 5:00 a.m. and other course streets from 7:30 a.m.

Finish

Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.

For your long training runs:

Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
