The organisers of the 2025 Shantou Marathon, held on 14 December, described a route with no bridges, no tunnels and almost no gradient, running along the seafront from west to east to Overseas Chinese Park.
The 2025 route went straight along the newly opened eastern extension of Haibin Road instead of detouring onto Zhongshan East Road, and the windy stretch of the east coast dyke road was dropped.

The organiser’s themes for the race were intangible heritage, food and a fast course, with a cultural corridor of Chaoshan heritage performances along the marathon route and a local food area after the finish.
