Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 5 and 11 metres, a range of 6 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Kattendijkbrug, km 0 to 0.1; Siberiastraat, km 0.9 to 0.9; Kattendijkbrug, km 20.1 to 20.1; (unnamed span), km 21 to 21.3; (unnamed span), km 22.1 to 22.3; Siberiastraat, km 23.4 to 23.4. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span. km 0 to 42.2GeometryOne city loop, run twiceTwo laps of one loop, so supporters can see their runner more than once.

The organiser’s own words for 2026: marathon runners cover this city loop twice (“leggen marathonlopers deze stadslus twee keer af”), which also lets supporters cheer the same runner in several places. The start is at the Kattendijkbrug on the Rijnkaai, the finish at the MAS. The course is measured to World Athletics rules and holds an International Measurement Certificate.

Whole courseLandmarkFrom the Havenhuis to the Scheldt quaysThe docks, the Meir, the station, the fine arts museum and the river, on each lap.

The organiser names these places on the 2026 course: the Havenhuis on the docks; the Boerentoren and the Meir; Centraal Station; the Dageraadplaats; the KMSKA, the fine arts museum; the Marnixplaats and the Kloosterstraat; and the quays along the Scheldt. The 10K, not the marathon, is the race that crosses the Grote Markt.

The organiser calls the course flat. The aid stations, by its 2026 table: the Meir at km 4.9 and 27.7, the Montenstraat at 7.5 and 30.0, the Boomgaardstraat at 10.4 and 32.9, the Haantjeslei at 13.0 and 35.5, the Sint-Michielskaai at 17.6 and 40.1, and the Oosterweelse Steenweg at 22.2. The longest gap is 5.5 km, from km 22.2 to the Meir at 27.7. At each station the tables run water, sports drink, food, then water again, and the helpers’ vests say which: blue for water, red for sports drink, yellow for food.

Sourced

km 0 to 42.2TacticsAlmost level, never straight for longThe turns, rather than hills, are the pacing challenge on this city loop.

The organiser calls the course flat and gives 57 m of climbing. The ground itself rises and falls by less than 6 m from its lowest point to its highest, and the climb, smoothed over 1 km, comes to 22.4 m.

The street geometry is the stronger pacing clue: 150 turns of at least 45 degrees within 60 m over the two laps. The second lap also adds a short docks detour before rejoining the first lap’s city streets.
