Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 196 and 241 metres, a range of 44 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Puente de la Almozara, km 1.6 to 1.9; Puente del Tercer Milenio, km 4.2 to 4.6; Paseo de Echegaray y Caballero, km 26 to 26.1; Paseo de Echegaray y Caballero, km 27.6 to 27.7; Puente de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, km 28.2 to 28.7; Puente de Piedra, km 29.1 to 29.4; Puente de Santiago, km 31.9 to 32; Paseo de Echegaray y Caballero, km 37.8 to 37.9; Paseo de Echegaray y Caballero, km 39.4 to 39.5. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span. Marked points: Cut-off 11:00 at km 21.1; Cut-off 12:05 at km 30; Cut-off 12:40 at km 35.

The organiser calls the marathon “Zaragoza en 42 kilómetros”, with start and finish in the Plaza del Pilar and a passage through the Roman walls, the bridges over the Ebro, the Mercado Central, Plaza de España and the Paseo de la Independencia.

The route page calls the course “el mejor recorrido de la historia”, less hard and more attractive than before, and says the stretch on the Canal Imperial cycle lane and the passage under the Almozara bridge are gone.
