The marathon course has a time limit of six hours, which the organiser puts at a pace of 14 minutes per mile. After the split, anyone who falls behind that pace is asked to move to the sidewalk, because road support and police are released with the tail vehicle.

The start line is a quarter mile east of the KC Streetcar Plaza stop, on 47th Street (Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard). The streetcar is free and starts running at 5:00 on race morning.

Each male, female and non-binary segment winner for the full and half marathon distances receives a device, according to the organiser. The marathon and half marathon share the road until the split at about mile 13, so the segment sits ahead of the point where the two courses separate.

All of the Kansas City Marathon courses are USATF certified.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
