This is a flat coastal course. The road runs between 3.7 m and 7.8 m above sea level, 4 m from the lowest point to the highest. The high point is at km 11.0, just before Madinat Jumeirah on the way back from Media City; the low point is at km 25.0, near the Burj Al Arab junction.
In all the marathon climbs 13.4 m. A watch on the day will count more small rises than that from the underpasses and slip roads. The figures are for the course on the organiser’s 2026 route map, which the organiser has not replaced for 2027.
Measured
The start is on Al Taryam Road, by the boundary of the Dubai Police Academy. The first leg runs up Al Sufouh Road, past the Dubai College junction and the entrance to Palm Jumeirah on the far side of the road, to a U-turn at the Dubai Media City entrance, opposite the Royal Mirage Hotel. That is about 5.5 km in.
The way back passes Al Qasr Hotel and Madinat Jumeirah, then Jumeirah Beach Road past the Burj Al Arab, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Marsa Al Arab. The course keeps to the left carriageway and runs toward the bridge at the Creek, turning just after the Al Mehemal Road junction, then back to the Burj Al Arab junction, and turns again to run the same lap a second time. After the second lap the runners pass the Burj Al Arab and the Madinat Jumeirah junctions, turn onto Al Taryam Road, and go into the Police Academy. The finish is in front of the Academy grandstand on its Parade Grounds.

The elite men and women go at 5:45 am and the mass field at 6:30 am. The organiser puts the temperature at the start at roughly 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, in the middle of the Gulf winter.
Water stations stand every 2.5 km from 5 km to 40 km, and again at the finish. Hydration drinks are at 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 km and at the finish. Toilets follow the stations at 5 km and every 5 km after it, and a medical station sits about 200 m past each main drink station. The organiser’s time limit is six hours at the finish line, with the roads opened again in phases. Runners still out after that are asked to finish on the footpaths.
