The marathon is two loops from Queen Square Park: the first goes out the Northside Trail to a turnaround near Dayton, the second takes the Gibson Trail to Marysville and the trail beyond to a second turnaround.
The organiser’s description sends runners north on St. John Street, along Queen Street and Saint-Anne’s Point Drive and up onto the Westmorland Street Bridge, then down to Union Street and Friel Street. From there the Northside Trail runs “toward the first turnaround just past Dayton cemetery at Blake Crt”. Runners come back along the same trail, cross the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge, turn right on Aberdeen Street and pass the gantry to start the second loop.
The second loop leaves on St. John Street and McLeod Avenue, joins the Lincoln Trail and crosses the same walking bridge, then follows the Gibson Trail “all the way toward Marysville”. It leaves the trail onto McGloin Street, crosses the Bridge Street bridge and runs the trail to a turnaround just past a tree farm. The way back crosses Bridge Street and Canada Street, takes the walking bridge a third time and finishes on Aberdeen Street at Queen Square Park.

The organiser’s FAQ says that “dogs are not allowed on the course” and strollers are banned “due to the narrow trail”, and on etiquette: “You should always follow the directions from course marshals. Please DO NOT run in such a way as to block the trail.” On the roads the route shares, it warns that “there will be vehicle traffic along some portions of the route” and that marshals direct traffic and the crossings.
On fuel, the FAQ says water and a lemon-lime sports drink will be available, “Gels will be available at the hydration stops near the 22k and 33k marks”, and “A special Cola station for marathoners only will be set up next to Kaine St just past 37k marker.” Anything else a runner wants has to be carried or handed over by family and friends, which the FAQ encourages.

The organiser’s FAQ answers the Boston question with “Yes. The Fredericton Marathon’s full marathon course is a certified course by Athletics Canada” and links the certificate. That certificate, number NB-2024-049-BDC, was measured on 28 and 29 September and 10 November 2024 for the 11 May 2025 race and runs to 31 December 2034. It lists the full marathon at 42.195 km with a start elevation of 10 m and a finish elevation of 10 m. The organiser’s 2027 page says the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K are certified for the race weekend.

The FAQ says all marathon runners start at 7:00 am and “the course closes at 1:00 pm (6-hour race time limit)”. The half-way mat is where it bites: “if you have not passed the 1/2 marathon timing mat by 9:45 am (2 hours and 45 minutes after the start)”, it says, “any runner approaching the finish line area to start their second loop after 9:45 am will be directed across the finish line and given a half marathon finishing time.” The registration page repeats the six-hour cut-off and gives the same 2 hours 45 minutes for the half-way point.

Race fuel
One every 40 minutes, by the clock:
Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.
For your long training runs:
Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side. Enough for race day and two test long runs.
Easy to forget on race morning: pack them with your bib the night before.
We earn a small fee if you buy through these links. The price is the same.

Outside the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the UK and Ireland, Spain and Portugal, Italy, the rest of the EU and Canada the button opens GU Energy Gel, Chocolate Outrage, 24-pack on Amazon.com, the best seller there.
An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.
Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.
Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.

Holds your bib without safety pins through your top, with loops for up to 8 gels.
Clip the bib on the night before, so it goes on with your shorts in the morning.
Keep the number on the front, where officials and photographers can see it.

One tablet in a bottle puts back some of the salt you sweat out.
One tablet in 500 ml of water in the hour before the start.
Only if you have used them in training: nothing new on race day.

One in a pocket cushions a blister if one starts.
Put it on clean, dry skin and leave it until it comes off by itself.
Give a couple to whoever comes to cheer, so they are there at the km you need them.
