Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 80. The trace runs between 2 and 483 metres, a range of 481 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: (unnamed span), km 0.5 to 0.6. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span.

The first 10 km follow the Akerselva upstream to Maridalsvannet, Oslo’s drinking water, with the first aid station at Maridalen church at about 13.4 km. The route then climbs from Honefoten to Fagervann at 416 m and passes Sognsvann and the Vettakollen summit at 419 m. After Holmenkollen come Sorkedalen, Bogstadvannet and the Lysakerelva down to Lysaker station, then Vaekeroparken and the fjord path to Bygdoy. The mix is forest roads, technical and easier trail, and about 9% asphalt.

The lowest point is 2 m near the fjord shore at 71.3 km and the highest is 483 m at 36.4 km, after the Holmenkollen aid station. The organiser gives 1,991 m of climbing on 80.2 km. The organiser says the distance is over 80 km and that watches measure differently. In 2026 the finish moved to Huk on Bygdoy and the last 10 km of every distance gained more climbing, 204 m up and 200 m down against 61 m and 60 m before, by Strava’s algorithms. The 80 km course record is 5:57:03, set by Didrik Hermansen in 2025.

Finish

Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.

For your long training runs:

Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
