The organiser describes the route this way. The race starts at the intersection of Park Street and College Street, then heads downhill on William Street and up through the Kings Cross Tunnel. It continues along New South Head Road through Rose Bay, up Heartbreak Hill, turns at Vaucluse onto Old South Head Road and then Military Road, and runs down the hill with ocean views to a turnaround at Curlewis Street. The finish line is on Queen Elizabeth Drive at Bondi. The organiser adds that the course is subject to change.

On the organiser’s course page the climb comes after Rose Bay: “up the infamous Heartbreak Hill, the halfway point and one of the most scenic parts of the course”. Its list of selfie spots puts a stop at Rose Bay at the 5 km mark, with the harbour behind, and another at the top of Heartbreak Hill, for a picture of “the world’s most famous bridge”. The organiser gives no height or length for the hill.

After Military Road and the run down the hill the course makes a turnaround at Curlewis Street and crosses the finish line on Queen Elizabeth Drive at Bondi. The organiser lists Ben Buckler as the spot where “Bondi awaits, you’re nearly finished”. Past the line, finishers collect a medal and walk to the event village to recover. Finish line closure for 2027 is listed at 1:50pm, a time the organiser says is based on its 2026 information.

The organiser’s June 2026 news item says 90,000 people registered for the 2026 edition, the third sell-out in a row, and that the event is open to runners, walkers, people with prams and wheelchair users. The 2027 schedule, which the organiser notes is based on 2026 information, starts the Elite, Preferred and Red groups at 7:35am and the last group, Orange, at 9:27am, with the start line closing at 9:50am. Walkers, prams and non-elite wheelchair athletes register in the last start wave.

Finish

Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.

For your long training runs:

Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side.

Compeed anti-blister stick, 8 ml

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
