The organiser describes the course as mostly flat with just a few gentle rises. Its pacer, Roger Vilardell, says the first 2K are slightly uphill along The Mall, that 6K by St Paul’s Cathedral is the last meaningful uphill, and that Aldwych brings a short rise of 250 to 300 metres near 7K. Whitehall at 9K is all downhill, and he calls it a very fast finish.

The organiser says the start is quite busy with a large field and The Mall is wide, so runners should avoid swerving or surging and wait for gaps to open. From 3K to 5K there are a few turns and some fast sections, and the 5K split is the moment to see whether a target time is still on.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.
