The organiser calls the course USAT&F certified and a Boston Qualifier route, a flat path through the lakes, along the river, around downtown, on the university campus and through historic neighbourhoods.
The marathon starts at 660 N. 4th St. in Baton Rouge on Sunday 17 January 2027 and is described as a fast, flat, runner-friendly course with one of the highest Boston qualifying rates of any marathon. The course is certified as LA23010DJR.
The half marathon uses the same start, leaving downtown and circling LSU’s campus and University Lakes before it splits off from the marathon and returns downtown for a finish that runs toward the state capitol. The course records are 2:23:47 (Josh Ordway, 2016) and 2:43:57 (Rachel Booth, 2019).

Race fuel
One every 40 minutes, by the clock:
Under about 75 minutes most runners need no gel: water at the aid stations does it.
For your long training runs:
Our pick: SiS BETA Fuel gel, box of 6, strawberry and lime. 40 g of carbohydrate a gel, about twice a usual gel, from two kinds of sugar your body takes up side by side. Enough for race day and two test long runs.
Easy to forget on race morning: pack them with your bib the night before.
We earn a small fee if you buy through these links. The price is the same.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.
Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.
Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
