Course elevation profile, 8× vertical exaggeration Elevation along the course from km 0 to km 42. The trace runs between 2 and 15 metres, a range of 13 metres, drawn at 8 times vertical exaggeration so the shape is legible. Smoothed over 1 km before this profile was derived. An unsmoothed urban surface carries the buildings and would assert a climb that is not there. The dashed stretches are bridge decks: Sunshine Motorway, km 16 to 16.4; Ocean Drive, km 19.5 to 19.5; Ocean Drive, km 29.9 to 29.9; Sunshine Motorway, km 33 to 33.4. A bare-earth model reads the ground or the water beneath a bridge, not the deck the runner is on, so those runs are interpolated between the ground either side rather than measured, and they under-report the real climb across a span. Marked points: Cut-off 08:01 at km 13.5; Cut-off 09:45 at km 25; Cut-off 10:16 at km 28.5; Cut-off 11:06 at km 34; Cut-off 11:51 at km 39.

The organiser’s 2025 course is a single lap in place of the older two-lap course. The marathon page says it starts and finishes on Alexandra Parade at Alexandra Headland and takes in Twin Waters and Mudjimba, with the Sunshine Motorway bridge crossed twice for views over the water. On that course the first crossing is at km 16.0 to 16.4 and the return crossing at km 33.0 to 33.4.

The organiser’s FAQ says the single lap means fewer turnarounds and less congestion, and that the course is AIMS-certified.

Measured

The organiser calls the new route “predominantly flat” and the numbers agree. The highest point is 15.4 m at km 6.0, the lowest 2.1 m at km 31.9, and the whole race adds up to 42.0 m of climbing, spread over small rises rather than any one hill. The finish at Alexandra Headland sits at 4.2 m, level with the start.

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
