The Running Warehouse Marathon on Sunday 18 April 2027 starts at 8am at Ballarat Town Hall on Sturt Street and finishes there after two laps of a World Athletics certified 21.1 km course designed by Steve Moneghetti. The organiser sells it on autumn colours, scenery and historic buildings. The course passes Victoria Park (drink stations at 3 km and 6.1 km, repeated at 24.1 km and 27.2 km), runs along Sturt Street, and goes out by Wendouree Parade and Zoo Drive (15.5 km and 36.6 km). Thirteen drink stations in all carry water and an electrolyte drink, and the limit is six hours of net time.

km 0 to 42.2GradientA course that never moves 21 metresEach lap rises from 439 m to 455 m by 10 km, then eases back to 437 m at 21.1 km.

Ballarat sits on a high plateau, and the marathon is flat by comparison with the ground it is built on. The lowest point is 434.9 m, at the finish, and the highest 455.6 m, at 27.5 km on the second lap. Each of the two laps starts at about 439 m, rises to 455 m by 10 km and 453 m at 15 km, then eases back to 437 m at 21.1 km, so the whole marathon climbs 67.7 m in total.

A watch on the day will count more small rises than this. The figures are for the organiser’s 2027 course map, two laps of the same 21.1 km loop.
