The organiser, the nonprofit Dallas White Rock Marathon, dates itself to 1971 and describes the marathon as Dallas’ largest and Texas’ longest-running, recognised as the official marathon of the City of Dallas. The weekend offers 12 event distances and, in the organiser’s words, tens of thousands of spectators line the streets, with courses that highlight iconic Dallas landmarks. Since 1997 the race has donated nearly $5 million to Scottish Rite for Children.

Compeed anti-blister stick, 8 ml

An invisible layer before the start keeps seams, straps and shoes from rubbing skin raw.

Put it on before you leave for the start: heels and toes, inner thighs, under a bra or heart-rate strap.

Try it on a long run first, like everything you use on race day.
