Marathon Trip makes course films for destination marathons.

A course film is a 3D flyover of a marathon route, cut to explain where the race is actually decided. Not a map. Not a camera move with music over it.

The two things that make one worth watching

An argument. Most course flyovers are three or four minutes of silent flypath. They answer “what does the route look like” in about twenty seconds, and there is no reason to stay for the rest. Ours answer a harder question - where is this race won, where does it break people, and why - and every claim is anchored to a kilometre of the course.

Real ground. Every frame is flown over satellite and aerial imagery of the city itself, with the route drawn on from OpenStreetMap and the height read off open survey elevation. Every layer under every frame has a licence you can go and read, and the imagery is credited on screen. A number you see here can be followed back to the survey it came from.

What we are not

We are not a race directory, and we are not any race’s organiser. Race names are trademarks belonging to the organisations that run those races. We use them the way a book about a city uses the city’s name: to say which race a film is about. Nothing here is official, endorsed, or affiliated, and no film we make will imply otherwise - which is why the finish gantry in a render carries no race name and no livery.
